|
| |
| ...and these
are the choices, how you may go from the airport to Downtown
Budapest |
Budapest Airport
is located outside of the Hungarian Capitol City. Regular airlines have
touchdown at Terminal 2,
that is about 25 km away from Budapest Center in Southeast
direction. Terminal 1
is, where low budget airlines have touchdown, about 5 km (4
bus stops) closer
to the City.
The
German construction company Hochtief
bought both terminals in the year 2006, when privatisation took
place. Hochtief announced the purpose of its engagement, they
had
a blueprint of the airport reconstruction, that should be finished in
ten years. So they want to merge both airports and build the largest
airport in Europe, larger than Heathrow, Londons
Gateway.
You
may see in all Budapest airport information, that the terminal 1 is 25
km away from the City Center and you will need 40 minutes to get there.
This is correct, but first you will need about half an hour after
touchdown, to get your baggages and be able, to think about your drive
to the City.
Your possible
routes from the airport to Budapest Center are: |
1. Rent a holiday car
-
you may rent-a-car comfortable at your home in our booking
system right
|
2. Taxi
-
it costs at least 15 euro, depending on traffic
situation. Our advice: you better
pay with Forint, the Hungarian currency, because taxi drivers
are
tricky and they are used to calculate as fast, that you never will
follow and if they make a mistake, that will never disadvantage
themself. Try to arrange a fixed price for the drive in advance.
|
3. Our airport transfer
costs
24 euro to all our holiday apartments, up to three guests together in
one direction.
You may order our transfer drive together with your apartment booking,
but please make your payment to the driver. He will wait for you with a
shield with your name on it in the airport lobby and take you to your
holiday apartment,
where you will receive the apartment keys.
|
4.
There is a train
from Terminal 1 to the Western
Railway Station in the City Center, that goes every half an hour. It
costs about 1,50 euro
for one, but you have to pay with Forint.
|
|
5. Single traveler or
couples travel to the City for the lowest price by Public Transportation
- streetcar,
bus, trolley bus, HÉV=Suburban
Railway or Metro, that is how they call the Underground
Railway in Budapest.
From Terminal 2
you take the airport bus N° 200 to "Kőbánya-Kispest",
which is the last station. This airport bus goes over Terminal
1. At terminal station you take the Metro N° 3,
that goes from the South to the North through the Center of Budapest.
Airport bus
time table: the
Bus N° 200 starts at Terminal 2 (also called Ferihegy
2) and goes from 4:55 in the morning untill 0:15 nights - this
bus
takes the passengers from Terminal 1
(Ferihegy 1) too. The lenght of this drive is about 30 minutes from
Terminal 2. At 4:30 in the morning
starts the first Metro N° 3 at "Kőbánya-Kispest"
Station to Town Center and the last Metro at 11:10 in the
evening.
Your travel time to the central station "Deák
tér" Square takes 16 minutes.
Ticket prices:
You may buy a ticket in the airport bus for 420 Forint (about
1,70 euro)
and this ticket is valid in the metro too. The bus driver accepts only
your Forint. - Smart people buy a one way ticket in the airport bus for
270 Forint and
buy a ticket at
"Kőbánya-Kispest"
Station for the whole Budapest journey.
These are your choices:

Budapest airport,
you take the metro N° 3 at "Deák
tér" Square
from 4:45 in te morning through the day untill 23:25 and go to
the
last station
"Kőbánya-Kispest".
The travel time takes 16 Minuten. At"Kőbánya-Kispest"
you take the airport bus N° 200, that goes
from here
between 4:30 in the morning and 23:46 in the evening.
You
take the bus to Terminal 2 but may also get out at Terminal 1.
The
whole drive may
take about 30 minutes.
|
6. Single traveler
may take the so-called "Airport-Minibus",
which is an 8-passenger collecting bus and is operated by the
Hungarian Airline Malev.
For 2.900,- Forint, about 13 Euro for one they take you to every house
door anywhere in Budapest. You may buy the ticket in the
airport
lobby. Dependng on day time, you will have to wait up to 30 minutes for
the Minibus - this is comfortable on your way to the City. - To buy a single ticket in one
direction to the City is a good solution for a single traveler. - Two tourists do not have to
calculate too long to find out, two tickets are more expensive, than a
taxi.
Our advice is > do not buy
a return ticket because of the following difficulties and risks. Other traveler have
the same and even worse
experiences over the recent years. Some people came too late to the
airport,
because the Minibus did not even appear at the place or time,
that
was arranged to take you to the airport.
The worse for foreighn tourists is the fact, that by buying the return
ticket, the sales
ladies do not want to hear about your appointed return time, they want
you to call a not very cheap telephone hotline 24 hours before your
drive back to the airport and arrange then your return date. After many
years of practice in hope, things will get better, we gave up
any
hope - You
may
get a phone connection right away or you also may dial unsuccessful
for hours - that is our experience in recent years. If you
were
at Lake Balaton in the summer, it is not very nice to be screwed up
somewhere in the phone cell - so forget it and never take the Minibus
return ticket - rather take a taxi for a few bucks more and have a
relaxed
last day, before the Minibus company disturbs your holiday
trip. - The reason
for this dirty telephone hotline practice by Malév is the
juridical fact, that in case of forgotten return date
or arrivig too late to the airport, you do not
have anything written in your hand. |
